Movies & Meaning 2020:
Three Days of Lights, Camera & Transformation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Join friends of art, storytelling, light, and a better world at the annual Movies
& Meaning [[link removed]]
festival this coming February. It's a winter weekend embracing a new story of connection,
creativity, and the common good.
In the spirit of inspiring hopeful action for personal and social transformation,
everyone's invited to Movies & Meaning, February 21-23, 2020, in Asheville, NC.
This annual festival gathers at the intersection of cinema, storytelling, community
and a better world. Our festivals have been inspirational events - people tell us
that their lives have been changed.
Each year, Movies & Meaning brings together innovative artists whose work spans
spirituality, storytelling, poetry, and activism. This year, our special guests
include:
* Beloved writer Kathleen Norris, New York Times bestselling author of Dakota, The
Cloister Walk, and Amazing Grace.
* Dynamic poet Buddy Wakefield, three-time World Poetry Slam Champion.
* Contemplative activist Micky ScottBey Jones, the "Justice Doula."
* Irish storyteller and activist Gareth Higgins, author of How Movies Helped Save
My Soul and Cinematic States.
Over the course of three days, in a beautiful environment, we'll watch films that
can help make the world better, share meaningful conversation, and experience transformative
art. Our speakers will guide us to engage more fully in the world, honor the brilliant
diversity of human stories and experiences, and work to undo suffering and oppression
in all its forms-both inside and out.
The festival begins on the evening of Friday, February 21, but there's an opportunity
to go even deeper. Beginning on the evening of Thursday, February 20 and ending
during the afternoon on Friday, our special Pre-Festival Workshop, Re-Writing Your
Life, offers just that.
Re-Writing Your Life is not a performance but a participative event where you'll
have opportunities for self-reflection, small group work, silence and conversation.
You don't need to be an expert in anything - all we ask is an open heart.
You can learn more about both the Movies & Meaning festival and Re-Writing Your
Life on our website. We look forward to seeing you there.
"Movies & Meaning came as a complete surprise to me. I had no idea how it would
impact me emotionally, be so thought and soul provoking, and leave me transformed
