Happy Saturday. âï¸
Welcome to another weekend edition of FT Now! First, with some promising
news: A pilot program in Arizona has shown success in combatting the
veteran suicide rate - an often overlooked problem in today's
rapid-fire political news cycles. In Louisiana, parents are rightly
concerned that public schools are handing out sexually explicit "health"
surveys to middle school students. Last but not least, House Intel
Committee Chairman Adam Schiff is taking heat for literally making up
portions President Trump's call with the president of Ukraine during a
hearing on Capitol Hill. Maybe he thought it would be funny? Who
knows...
Arizona GOP Governor Doug Ducey's Be Connected Program Serving As A
National Model For Success
What Happened:
Under the leadership of Gov. Doug Ducey, a pilot program with the
Arizona National Guard is showing measurable success - and getting
nationwide attention - for reducing veteran suicide rates.
Why You Should Care:
According to a recent report from the U.S. Department of Veteran
Affairs, the suicide rate among veterans has risen steadily since 2005.
The Be Connected program focuses on early intervention to help the men,
women, and families who have sacrificed by serving our country.
What Happens Next:
Hopefully, programs like Be Connected will be duplicated to help
veterans around the country.

Why You Should Care:

centers. But at least one mother says her son was given the survey
without her consent - not good.
What Happens Next:
"The state government of Louisiana - which is currently run by Democrat
Gov. John Bel Edwards - should probably let parents decide when and how
to "survey" their middle school-aged children about sex. Just a thought.

Rep. Adam Schiff Fabricates What Trump Said In Ukraine Telephone Call
Script
What Happened:
In a highly-publicized hearing on Capitol Hill around the House
Democrats' impeachment inquiry, House Intelligence Committee Chairman
Adam Schiff chose to literally make up portions of President Trump's
call with the president of Ukraine.
Why You Should Care:
Schiff says he was simply conveying the "essence" of the call. By making
up a conversation that never happened? If senior House Democrats
aren't taking these proceedings seriously, why should the rest of
America?
What Happens Next:
House Democrats continue full steam ahead...
