Take action for refugees.Dear John,
Amidst the largest global refugee crisis in recorded history, reports have
surfaced that the United States is considering admitting zero refugees in 2020.
With more than 70 million people displaced worldwide, not resettling one single
refugee would be a shameful abdication of our nation’s historic leadership in
this area.
There are now 25.9 million refugees worldwide. Of that number, more than 1.44
million refugees will be in urgent need of resettlement in 2020, according to
the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Throughout our history, the U.S. has welcomed
refugees; since 1980 we’ve resettled an average of nearly 80,000 refugees
annually. But this year, the administration set the lowest admissions cap in the
history of the U.S. resettlement program, just 30,000 people.
Tell your Member of Congress to support higher refugee admissions.

Despite the administration’s increasingly restrictive refugee and asylum
policies, HIAS is as dedicated as ever to and helping refugees find welcome,
safety, and freedom in the United States.
But our work helping refugees escape danger and violence depends on the
assistance of people like you.
Add your name now to tell Congress that our country should continue to welcome
refugees.
