Congressman Jeff Van Drew was asked about a video Trump posted that depicted the Obamas as apes — a racist trope that has been used for generations to demean and dehumanize Black Americans. His response?

“These types of videos are morally wrong. Sadly, this kind of behavior happens on both sides of the aisle, and it needs to stop. We should be holding ourselves to a higher standard.”

Let me be clear: racism is not a “both sides” issue.
