New York Calls for a Halt on Data Centers
As the profit-hungry data industry expands nationwide, it’s turned its attention to New York. Governor Hochul recently laid out a vague roadmap for data center construction ([link removed]) — but we don’t even know if they can be operated responsibly at all.
More than 50+ New York organizations joined our call for a national halt to new data centers, and we’ll keep fighting to keep these facilities out of the state until we have protections for our communities.

230+ orgs, Bernie Sanders say “No more new data centers!”
More than 230 organizations signed our letter to Congress ([link removed])demanding an immediate halt to new data center construction.
It soon garnered the support of Senator Bernie Sanders, who joined our call!
Across the country, elected officials are hearing our demand that they side with us against Big Tech oligarchs. Proposals for local pauses are growing, and we can expect states to follow soon.

Cost per data center job: $13 Million
Big Tech has positioned data centers as job creators and bringers of economic prosperity. But our new research shows just how much of a drain they are on communities. More data centers bring few jobs, while using vast amounts of electricity and water and benefiting from lucrative tax breaks that eat into resources for the public.

Tell Congress: No new data centers!
We need to hit the brakes on the completely unregulated deployment of massive data center projects that are straining our water resources, spiking our energy bills, and worsening the climate crisis.
We cannot allow these facilities to continue growing unrestrained.
