I’ll never forget being barricaded in the Capitol complex with Katie while insurrectionists tried to stop the election certification.

Watching rioters storm the Capitol from our office, barricaded behind a sofaI was terrified, Herbert — for our lives, and for our Democracy.

So, I started an organization to stamp out political violence, fight authoritarianism, and protect free and fair elections.

We worked to prevent January 6th insurrectionists from ever getting elected to office.

I never planned to run for office myself — but after watching Trump abuse his executive power and take an ax to our free press — I made the pressing choice to get off the sidelines.

Because I refuse to allow Republicans to hand the reins of our Democracy to Donald Trump.

I refuse to watch them unravel our most fundamental Constitutional protections.

And I refuse to let them excuse and enable political violence like the January 6th insurrection.
