John, it’s political strategist Paul Begala.
I’ve been in the game a long time, so I’ve got a sense which races are
going to be close and which candidates are worth getting behind.
I’m also very familiar with the importance of Iowa, which is why I know
that Rob Sand has what it takes to win the governor’s race, for a number
of reasons:
It’s already close. Like, really close. In fact, Sabato’s Crystal Ball
recently moved it from “Likely R” to “Lean R.”
The partisan insiders who’ve been at the wheel for years are historically
unpopular. Before announcing she’s not running for re-election, Kim
Reynolds was among the least popular governors in the country.
Rob Sand is a uniquely perfect candidate for this race, and his campaign
gives Democrats a shot to win a race that would otherwise be out of reach.
We’d be foolish to sleep on Iowa, and we’ve got an opportunity to make
massive inroads in a tough state, but only if we support Rob Sand. [ [link removed] ]Will

Rob Sand gives us a chance to move Iowa forward and pry control away from
the partisan insiders and special interests that he’s gone after during

Winning in a state like Iowa won’t be easy. It’s going to require broad,
far-ranging outreach, tough conversations with folks who might not always
agree with us, and forging connections based on Iowa and the needs of the
community.
But the key ingredient to winning a tough race in a challenging
environment is grassroots support and enthusiasm. And that’s Rob’s
not-so-secret weapon.
