[link removed] [[link removed]] The Washington Post: “White House fires arts commission expected to review Trump construction projects”
Just over a week ago, all employees of the independent federal agency working for the independent federal agency that was expected to review some of President Trump’s construction projects, including his White House ballroom, were fired by the White House.
The White House fired six members—the entire staff—of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, which was established more than a century ago. The commission, which is usually a mix of architects and urban planners, was formed to provide advice to the president, Congress and local government officials on design matters related to construction projects in the capital region, from government buildings to memorials.
The commissioners would have advised the president on his construction of the new White House ballroom. But, as the White House told reporters, new commissioners will be appointed who align with the president’s “America First policies.”
John, this is yet another glaring example of how this administration is undermining oversight—and it’s just the latest in Trump’s firing spree of public servants.

Since the start of his second term, Trump has sought to remake the federal government by firing high-level appointees who keep our government running, including watchdogs, ethics officials and nonpolitical advisors.
These firings range from a board member of the National Labor Relations Board to the FEC chair to the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner.
These firings are an unprecedented attack on independent agencies and government accountability. And some of them are likely illegal.
But the Trump administration doesn’t seem to care.
In fact, the administration hasn’t been shy about its desire to overturn Humphrey’s Executor v. U.S., which would end independent agencies as we know them and allow presidents to install allies to positions that are explicitly designed to be apolitical.
