This is not the Congressional map Ohioans deserve. Throughout the redistricting process, our Republican colleagues made it abundantly clear that they had no interest in transparency, upholding the constitution, or drawing a fair map for the benefit of the people of Ohio.
The only way things change is if we can find the courage to move to a system where citizens, not politicians, draw our lines.

However, I also want to be clear about one thing: the maps we were able to secure (on the right) give us a very real path to five Democratic Congressional seats in Ohio, whereas, the map Republicans would’ve passed (on the left) if we had missed our deadline and gone into November, would have all but guaranteed us no more than two.

and here a sample of what others had to say:

Ohio's Democratic Legislative Leadership has fended off the most extreme scenario in the Buckeye State. Though there is substantial work to do, this imperfect map allows sitting Democrats to continue to compete in all their existing congressional districts.” ~ Eric Holder, Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee

Overall takeaway is that this is better for Democrats than I would've expected earlier in the year. ~ Kyle Kondik, Sabato’s Crystal Ball at the UVA Center for Politics
I understand some are upset about this outcome. I hear you.

And again, the only way things change is if we can find the courage to move to a system where citizens, not politicians, draw our lines. And I am a willing partner for a future potential ballot initiative to make this change.

But in the Ohio we live in today, this was the best of a worst case scenario.

Sincerely,
Minority Leader Nickie J. Antonio
