Hi John,
Huge news - Ridglan Farms, the notorious dog-breeding factory farm supplying animals for experimentation, is shutting down!
After years of investigation, legal action, and public pressure, Ridglan announced yesterday that it will shut down its breeding operation by July 1, 2026. This means thousands of dogs will be spared from cruelty.
Back in 2017, DxE investigators first exposed Ridglan Farms’ horrific conditions ( [link removed] ) and rescued three beagles— including Julie ( [link removed] ) , a blind puppy found spinning endlessly in her cage. For the first time in her life, Julie received love and care from humans. In response, the Dane County District Attorney filed felony charges against the rescuers. But days before trial, Ridglan panicked about the public attention and asked that the charges be dropped.
That turning point opened the door for justice. The legal team representing the rescuers, including the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project ( [link removed] ) , pushed back. They demanded the dogs get their day in court and succeeded in getting a special prosecutor appointed to investigate Ridglan for animal cruelty instead. Since then, the company has faced mounting scrutiny. A few weeks ago, Wisconsin’s Veterinary Examining Board voted unanimously to suspend the license of Ridglan’s primary veterinarian after it came to light that he had ordered employees to perform improper, painful surgeries on dogs without proper anesthesia or training. *Then, the special prosecutor was about to file criminal charges of animal cruelty against Ridglan Farms when they announced they will just shut down!*
Enormous thanks to our allies at the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project, Dane4Dogs, Alliance for Animals Wisconsin, The Simple Heart, and The Marty Project for their tireless work to make this happen.
*Please share this incredible news on your social media today to spread hope and show the world what’s possible when we stand up for animals.* ( [link removed] )
*In other news:* The Perdue Rescue Trial—where animal rescuer Zoe Rosenberg faces a felony and misdemeanors for exposing cruelty in Perdue’s supply chain—is now in the jury’s hands. You can read some of the press from yesterday's closing arguments in the SF Chronicle ( [link removed] ) and Associated Press ( [link removed] ). Jury deliberation is happening right now, and we could have a verdict as soon as today. Stay tuned to hear what happens.
Together, we are making history for animals.
With gratitude and determination,
Cassie
