Happy Saturday. ☕️

Below are the top news stories from around the country - handpicked for
you this week by the editors at the Free Telegraph!New federal jobs data
is painting a bleak picture for Louisiana under Democrat Gov. John Bel
Edwards. In North Carolina, some are accusing the Democratic governor of
creating a "sanctuary state." Now for some good news: Republican
governors are getting high approval marks around the country. Read more
to find out why.

Democrat Gov. John Bel Edwards' Louisiana Was The Only State In The
Country To Lose Jobs In The Past Year

What Happened:

New data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics paints a pretty
bleak picture for Louisiana under Democrat Gov. John Bel Edwards. While
the national economy is booming, Louisiana was the only state in the
country to see a decline in jobs from July 2018 to July 2019.

Why You Should Care:

It's more than a little concerning that Lousiaina can't seem to keep
up with the economic progress we're seeing around the country. While
other states are moving forward, Louisiana just isn't.

What Happens Next:

Gov, Edwards, who is up for re-election this fall, is already trying to
spin the data. But numbers don't lie, and voters will have to ask
themselves if they're really better off with Edwards as their
governor.

North Carolina Dem Gov Roy Cooper Vetoes Bill Requiring Police
Cooperation With ICE

What Happened:

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed a bill that would have made it
mandatory for state and local law enforcement to comply with detainer
requests from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Why You Should Care:

For one, state Republicans are blasting Cooper's decision, arguing it
shows he cares more about illegal immigrants than the safety of North
Carolinians. Just last week, an illegal immigrant was picked up by ICE
in Charlotte, after he had been arrested on rape charges and
subsequently released. In that case, local police rejected an ICE
detainer request.

What Happens Next:

Gov. Cooper will have to defend his veto to the voters.

Why Republican Governors Are More Popular

What Happened:

National Review recently dove into why the ten most popular governors in
the country are all Republicans!

Why You Should Care:

The conservative, pro-growth policies put in place by Republican
governors are getting noticed by constituents around the country. And
they're not just proving to be popular in red states. Republican
governors of blue and purple states are also enjoying high approval
ratings.

What Happens Next:

Only more good things to come from these Republican governors!
