Trump and Republican leaders in Congress are threatening a government shutdown so they can slash funding for safe food and clean water.

On Friday, the House of Representatives passed a short-term spending bill that leaves the door open to future funding cuts that threaten clean water. The bill also underfunds WIC nutritional assistance by $600 million, which could remove food from the plates of nearly half a million young children and new parents over the year.

After House Republicans passed their version of the bill, they left town to avoid negotiating with Democrats. Now, we need Senators to stand firm against Trump’s dangerous cuts to food and water safety.

Your Senators have an opportunity to defend safe water and food right now. This year’s spending bill needs support from at least seven Democratic senators – and all Republican senators – to pass.

Democrats in the House and Senate have offered a counter-proposal to keep the government open.
