John, Trump and Republican leaders in Congress are threatening a government shutdown so they can slash funding for safe food and clean water. On Friday, the House of Representatives passed a short-term spending bill that leaves the door open to future funding cuts that threaten clean water. The bill also underfunds WIC nutritional assistance by $600 million, which could remove food from the plates of nearly half a million young children and new parents over the year. After House Republicans passed their version of the bill, they left town to avoid negotiating with Democrats. Now, we need Senators to stand firm against Trump’s dangerous cuts to food and water safety. Send a message to your Senators now: Safe water and critical food protections are non-negotiable! Protect public programs that millions of Americans rely on!

Your Senators have an opportunity to defend safe water and food right now. This year’s spending bill needs support from at least seven Democratic senators – and all Republican senators – to pass. Together, we’re working to ensure our Senators stand firm and block cuts to safe food and water. From mobilizing our volunteer base, sending messages, making calls, and ramping up pressure on key Senators – our strategy is working. Democrats in the House and Senate have offered a counter-proposal to keep the government open. It would fully fund food assistance for young children and new parents, protect access to healthcare, and prohibit the use of sneaky backdoor tactics to revoke already-approved funding for clean water and other essential programs. This is exactly what we’ve been pushing for – and it’s proof that we can win this fight! Take action today! Urge your Senators to oppose the House spending bill that allows Trump’s extreme cuts, and to protect public programs that millions of Americans rely on. Onward together,
