A family member recently warned me not to post critically about Trump or
J.D. Vance — not because I’d be sued or canceled or anything like that.

But because they were worried for my safety.

They compared it to the Panopticon — a prison where a single guard watches
from a central tower, and prisoners fall in line because they think
they’re being watched. Even when they’re not.

That's how authoritarianism creeps in. It's a chilling effect. You stop
speaking out. You self-censor. You start to wonder: "What will they do to
me if I say something?”

And last week, something deeply disturbing happened.

Jimmy Kimmel’s show was suspended after he made comments about Charlie
Kirk. Let’s be clear: a late-night host losing his platform for
criticizing a right-wing extremist is a massive redline — not just for
democracy, but for free speech.

If we don’t push back now, this becomes the new normal.

This isn’t just about Jimmy Kimmel or me or anyone else with a platform.
It’s about what happens when speaking up becomes dangerous — and silence
becomes survival.

But I didn’t survive a school shooting to live in fear.

And we didn’t start Leaders We Deserve to tiptoe around extremists.

We launched this movement to fight for a future that isn’t ruled by fear —
where free speech, democracy, and truth still matter. That means electing
a new generation of Democrats who aren’t afraid to speak out and stand up.
