Email from Rep. McCaul Thank You to the People of Texas Today, I made a big announcement on ABC's "This Week" and in the Austin American-Statesman: While I will continue to serve you to the best of my ability throughout the remainder of this Congress, I will not seek another term. This is not a decision I reached lightly, and I couldn't be more grateful to the people of Texas for entrusting me to represent them for more than two decades. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve you in the United States Congress, including as chair of two prestigious committees: the Homeland Security Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee. My father was a bombardier in World War II, fighting to secure the free world from the evils of Hitler and the Nazi Party. His bravery inspired me to pursue a life of public service and to defend our great nation from global threats. I served with honor in the halls of Congress to carry on his legacy. During my time in Congress, I focused on strengthening U.S. national security by securing the homeland, combating terrorism, bolstering U.S. alliances, and confronting U.S. adversaries. Now, I am ready for a new challenge using my expertise to serve the people of this country in the national security and foreign policy realm, and make America stronger and the world safer. Until then, I look forward to continuing to serve you — the people of Texas — throughout the remainder of the 119th Congress. My chairmanship of the House Homeland Security Committee was marked by a rise in brutal terror attacks against the United States homeland, our interests overseas, and our allies. During my six years with the gavel, I worked extensively to strengthen the homeland amidst threats from these foreign fighters and online radicalization. I was proud to lead the congressional investigation into the Boston Marathon Bombing, to author the bill that created the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, and to reauthorize and expand TSA programs (including PreCheck and Global Entry) for the first time. More recently, I served as an impeachment manager in the proceedings against President Biden's DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. And I secured a provision to pay back border states — primarily Texas — for $13.5 billion in costs incurred under the Biden administration. McCaul, as Homeland Security Chairman, flying with our troops McCaul delivering impeachment articles against Secretary Mayorkas to the Senate My leadership on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, serving as both the ranking Republican and then the chairman, was marked by generational turmoil overseas, including President Biden's catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the horrific October 7th attack on Israel, and increasingly aggressive actions by the Chinese Communist Party in the Indo-Pacific. As committee chairman, I worked to confront U.S. adversaries and strengthen crucial U.S. alliances in order to boost U.S. national security and protect our nation. I consistently worked to hold Iran accountable for the web of terrorism it created across the Middle East and was indicted by the regime for my involvement in the strike that killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani. I was also sanctioned by China for my work to push back on the CCP's malign activity around the world and support Taiwan by leading congressional delegation visits to the island. I also led a comprehensive, multi-year investigation into the Biden administration's botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, which culminated in a 350-page final report. Finally, I authored and passed many crucial pieces of legislation — including measures to fully implement and strengthen AUKUS, the security pact between the U.S., U.K., and Australia that counters China in the Indo-Pacific. And I was a congressional champion for the sweeping 2024 national security supplemental, sponsoring one of the four pillars that made up the full package, which was entitled the “21st Century Peace Through Strength Act.” McCaul leading congressional delegation visits to meet the Dalai Lama and Taiwan's President Lai, and Pope Francis McCaul confronting President Biden's Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, over the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan One of the biggest highlights of my career has been working to protect the next generation by combating human trafficking and childhood cancer. To address the scourge of human trafficking, I formally authorized and codified DHS’s Blue Campaign against human trafficking, providing law enforcement new tools to help them deter, detect and mitigate instances of human trafficking. And while serving as ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I passed my Leveraging Information on Foreign Traffickers (LIFT) Act into law. The bill ensured law enforcement officials receive timely information about foreigners denied entry to the U.S. for human trafficking reasons, and it extended the survivor-led Advisory Council on Human Trafficking. I was honored to work with Ivanka Trump on this important bill. I also worked extensively to give children with cancer a voice on Capitol Hill. In 2009, I founded the Childhood Cancer Caucus, and since then, we have passed several pieces of legislation that are saving thousands of young lives. The pediatric cancer patients and survivors I've met and worked with are nothing short of inspirational, and together, we are making cancer history. McCaul at the White House with childhood cancer survivor and advocate Sadie Keller McCaul with childhood cancer patients and survivors I'm also proud that I consistently ranked among the most effective members of Congress in independent scorecards, because I believe we can do more when we work together — not as Republicans and Democrats, but as fellow Americans. I look forward to serving the remainder of my term, and I will never stop working to advance U.S. national security, strengthen our foreign policy, and make our nation — and our world — a better place for the next generation.
