Email from Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty Trump Admin Sides with WILL Lawsuit & Drops Defense of Race-Based Farm Aid The Trump Administration filed a motion declining to defend multiple Biden-era aid programs within the Department of Agriculture (USDA), each of which currently discriminate against white male farmers. In June, WILL filed a lawsuit on behalf of our client, Adam Faust, a Wisconsin dairy farmer. He is one of the two million white male farmers who are still subject to race-based policies implemented by the Biden administration's USDA. The DOJ's motion followed the WILL lawsuit which attempted to remove race-based or sex-based consideration for farmers for its various loan, commodity, and conservation programs. WILL Deputy Legal Counsel, Dan Lennington, stated, “This lawsuit served as a much-needed reminder to the USDA that President Trump has ordered the end to all federal DEI programs. There’s more work to do be done, but today’s victory gives us a clear path to do even more in the name of equality.” Read More WILL Backs Superhero Special Ed Teacher in Fight Against Madison School District Today, WILL filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of Kally Bishop, a highly skilled special education teacher at Thoreau Elementary, a part of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD). Before the current school year, Kally was “surplussed” or involuntarily transferred over less qualified teachers based on the District's race-laden scoring system. In 2021, MMSD changed how it "surplusses" educators, replacing seniority with a new scoring system. This new system heavily favors "culturally responsive practices," a subjective criterion that prioritizes "students of color" and was designed to protect "teachers of color." The circumstances surrounding Kally's transfer suggest this system was used as a proxy for race discrimination. WILL Client, Kally Bishop, stated, “I loved my job at Thoreau Elementary and was heartbroken to be forced out after so many years there. No teacher or student should ever be discriminated against based on their race.” WILL's complaint with the EEOC is the first step to taking legal action against the school district. WILL Fights Free Speech Overreach at SCOTUS WILL and The Buckeye Institute have teamed up, filing an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in the case Gilliam v. Gerregano. The brief urges the Court to clarify the "government speech doctrine" and put an end to government censorship of vanity license plates. The brief argues that this doctrine, which allows the government to express itself without First Amendment scrutiny, must be "narrowly applied to prevent misuse and safeguard the free speech rights of all Americans." WILL continues to defend free speech and First Amendment rights across the country to ensure all Americans can express themselves without fear of government censorship.
