Email from Rep. Miller-Meeks Miller-Meeks Weekly Script August 3rd, 2025 View as Webpage The One Big Beautiful Bill is Saving Iowa Families Money and Building Their Futures Raising a family isn’t easy and it definitely isn’t cheap. As a mother, I know firsthand how every dollar counts when you are working hard to provide for your children and plan for their future. That is why I was proud to support President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. This law is helping Iowa families, seniors, and children keep more of what they earn while giving them real opportunities to build financial security for the future. One of the most impactful provisions is the new $1,000 “Trump Accounts” for newborns. Every child born after January 1, 2025, will automatically receive a $1,000 investment account from the federal government. Parents and relatives can contribute up to $5,000 each year, and the growth is completely tax free. This account works much like a retirement account but is designed to give children a strong financial foundation. If contributions are made each year and the account is left to grow, it could be worth nearly $2 million by the time the child turns 28. That kind of security can change a child’s life. But families need help today as well. That is why I fought to increase the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 per child. This means real dollars in the pockets of families as they pay for groceries, school supplies, and other necessities. Unfortunately, every single Democrat in Congress voted to cut this credit in half. We fought back and ensured families would receive the support they deserve. Our seniors also deserve peace of mind. The One Big Beautiful Bill created a new $6,000 tax deduction for Americans over the age of 65. Married couples can deduct up to $12,000 from their taxable income. This is on top of the existing standard deduction and will help seniors on fixed incomes keep more of what they worked for. Every one of these provisions was opposed by Democrats in Congress. They voted against newborn savings accounts, against the higher Child Tax Credit, and against tax relief for seniors. I voted for all of it because I believe Iowa families deserve the tools and resources to build a brighter future. And I will keep fighting in Washington to make sure they get it. Representing Iowa's First District The checkered flag has waved on an incredible Iowa Corn 350 at the Iowa Speedway! It was great to be in Newton supporting an event that showcases our state on the national stage and drives major investment into our communities. Exciting time in Jasper County announcing the 367-acre Newton Rail Park! This once-in-a-generation public-private partnership project will attract new businesses, strengthen manufacturing & agriculture, and create thousands of jobs. Proud to support local leaders & help ensure its success. Great to tour Interpower in Oskaloosa and celebrate their 50th anniversary with founder Bob Wersen. Interpower is a shining example of Iowa innovation, creating good jobs and manufacturing high-quality products right here at home. Congratulations on this milestone! How The One Big Beautiful Bill Puts More Money in Your Pockets Thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill, every child born after Jan 1, 2025, will receive a $1,000 investment account. Families can contribute up to $5,000 a year tax-free, building a stronger foundation for their child’s future. According to the Treasury Department, if families contribute the full $5,000 a year on top of the $1,000 provided by the federal government and keep it untouched, your child can have nearly $2 million by age 28. As a mother, I know how expensive it is to raise a family. That's why I fought to increase the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 in the One Big Beautiful Bill, after Democrats voted to cut it in half. Over 47 million Americans claim the Child Tax Credit. To ensure the benefits supported American families and not illegal immigrants, the tax credit requires recipients to provide a valid social security number. The Tax Credit will deliever real relief to Iowa Families. Thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill Iowa seniors get a $6,000 bonus deduction. 51.4 million seniors will pay no tax on their Social Security. This provision, which is backed by AARP, will reduce tax bills for many older Americans. After a lifetime of hard work, Iowa seniors deserve peace of mind, not more taxes.
