For Electric Vehicles, Smaller Is Better ( [link removed] )
************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Electric vehicles are getting bigger. In Europe, China, the U.S. and elsewhere, the share of small EVs is shrinking as buyers increasingly opt for electric pick-up trucks and SUVs.

All are better for the climate than gas-powered cars. So, does their size matter?

Surprisingly, yes. A shift toward larger EVs can strain energy systems and increase demand for scarce critical minerals. Smaller cars are also safer and better suited to many cities. We dug into the trend for bigger vehicles, and what it means to grow the EV market sustainably.

The Latest Data Confirms: Forest Fires Are Getting Worse ( [link removed] )
*******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

2024 was the worst year for global forest fires in two decades. But this was no fluke. Wildfires have been escalating, with climate change fueling bigger, more destructive burns around the globe. We looked at the areas most affected and what’s behind this worrying increase.

Are Countries’ New Climate Commitments Ambitious Enough? ( [link removed] )
********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

The International Court of Justice ruled last week that countries have a legal obligation to limit climate change — and that those that don’t act could be held liable for others’ climate-related losses ( [link removed] ). The latest national climate commitments reveal which countries are meeting the challenge.

*US EPA Proposes to Reverse Its Authority to Limit Climate Pollution ( [link removed] )*

On July 29, the U.S Environmental Protection Agency announced a new proposal seeking to overturn the agency’s own scientific finding that greenhouse gas pollution endangers human health and thus requires regulation and oversight.

“Most Americans have never heard of this provision — called “endangerment” — yet it is extremely important to their everyday lives. Repealing this provision will...make it harder for people to deal with rising household energy bills, harder to address health problems from extreme heat waves and harder for businesses to succeed in a changing climate. Decades of EPA’s own science demonstrates that managing greenhouse gases is fundamental to protecting Americans’ health."
