Email from Rep. Hinson Friend, This week, two Chinese nationals were charged for smuggling a dangerous biological pathogen and agroterrorism agent into the United States to “study” at the University of Michigan. This is just the latest example of Chinese nationals with links to the CCP exploiting our higher education system to do the CCP’s bidding. I applaud President Trump and Secretary Rubio for wasting no time in revoking Chinese students’ visas with ties to the CCP or studying in critical fields for Beijing’s benefit. We must ensure that no American institution enables China’s technological and military modernization ambitions—especially under the guise of academic exchange. I’m grateful to FBI Director Patel and our law enforcement for staying vigilant and containing the national security threat to American lives and our food supply. Whether it’s stealing valuable seeds directly from the ground, quietly buying up our farmland, or through its deceptive trade practices, China has long worked to undermine American agriculture and our global food supply. That is why I introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Securing American Agriculture Act, so we can identify any potential deficiencies in our agriculture supply chains to promote domestic production—something President Trump has prioritized—and reduce dependence on our foreign adversaries. This dangerous attempt we saw this week by Chinese nationals should be a wake-up call. We must get my bill across the finish line and to the president’s desk so we can ensure farmers have the necessary resources and safeguards to compete and continue feeding and fueling the world. Sincerely, Welcoming Iowans to Washington, D.C. I was happy to welcome the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association to my D.C. office. We are all glad the crazy days of Biden EV mandates and overreaching regulations are over. The government has no business putting expensive mandates on vehicle sales that drive up costs for Iowans, end of story. The Iowa Realtors also stopped by my D.C. office this week, and we had a productive meeting about housing availability in Iowa. Buying a home is a big part of the American dream, and I’ll keep working to help more families achieve this major milestone! Protecting Iowa's Small Businesses House Republicans recently codified another set of commonsense Executive Orders to support and protect Iowa’s small businesses. Within weeks of passing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to provide historic tax relief to families and businesses, we also passed: American Entrepreneurs First Act Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act Plain Language in Contracting Act Connecting Small Businesses with Career and Technical Education Graduates Act President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill will increase and make permanent the Small Business Deduction. Investing in small businesses means investing in the strength of our communities, and I’ll continue fighting for Main Street Iowa. Standing Behind President Trump's America First Agenda This morning, I joined Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business and discussed China's latest stunt to undermine our national security and advancing President Trump’s America First agenda. Watch here! Earlier this week, I joined Sharla McBride and Marc Lotter on Newsmax to discuss Trump Administration’s efforts to repair the damage done by four years of Biden’s Border Crisis. Click here to see the full video! I also joined Dagen McDowell and David Webb on Fox Business to discuss the China threat, the Republican trifecta’s efforts to save tax dollars through DOGE, and of course, the many wins in the One Big Beautiful Bill. Watch here! And to round out the week, it was fun to join Ryan Schmelz on Fox News Radio to talk about how President Trump's agenda is delivering for Iowans. Listen here! In Case You Missed It: Quick Hits I thanked Secretary Rollins for putting our farmers and ranchers first! I emphasized that the suspect in the antisemitic terror attack in Colorado would not have been in the U.S. if Biden had enforced the law. I asked OMB Director Vought how the Biden Administration allowed SBA loans to be given to babies and the deceased. I applauded President Trump and Secretary Hegseth for exceeding the U.S. Army's recruiting goal four months ahead of schedule. I expressed support for getting a rescissions package across the finish line so we can codify cuts of the wasteful spending DOGE uncovered. I joined NewsNation, where I applauded Secretary Rollins for eliminating DEI from the Department of Agriculture. I called out NBC News for their shameful coverage of the recent antisemitic attack in Boulder, Colorado. I joined Google's Investing in America event in Linn County, where Google announced $7 billion in new investments across our state! My son Max and I attended the send-off ceremony for the brave soldiers of Iowa's 334th Brigade Support Battalion.
