Friend,
This week, two Chinese nationals were charged for smuggling a dangerous biological pathogen and agroterrorism agent into the United States to “study” at the University of Michigan. This is just the latest example of Chinese nationals with links to the CCP exploiting our higher education system to do the CCP’s bidding.
I applaud President Trump and Secretary Rubio for wasting no time in revoking Chinese students’ visas with ties to the CCP or studying in critical fields for Beijing’s benefit. We must ensure that no American institution enables China’s technological and military modernization ambitions—especially under the guise of academic exchange. I’m grateful to FBI Director Patel and our law enforcement for staying vigilant and containing the national security threat to American lives and our food supply.
Whether it’s stealing valuable seeds directly from the ground, quietly buying up our farmland, or through its deceptive trade practices, China has long worked to undermine American agriculture and our global food supply. That is why I introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Securing American Agriculture Act, so we can identify any potential deficiencies in our agriculture supply chains to promote domestic production—something President Trump has prioritized—and reduce dependence on our foreign adversaries.
This dangerous attempt we saw this week by Chinese nationals should be a wake-up call. We must get my bill across the finish line and to the president’s desk so we can ensure farmers have the necessary resources and safeguards to compete and continue feeding and fueling the world.
Sincerely,
|
