Dear John,

The odds were against Indigo the day she was born in a slaughterhouse. Her mother, Liberty, was moments from death. But thanks to five years of care and compassion, their story continues.

Today, mother and daughter thrive side by side at Farm Sanctuary, thanks to the generous support of kind people like you.

Sanctuary allows animals like Indigo to defy the odds stacked against them by factory farming. It is the promise of protection.

Help us keep that promise by

symbolically adopting Indigo today. Your automatic monthly gift will provide Indigo—and animals like her—with a lifetime of care, safety, and love.

Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Farm Animal (AAFA) monthly giving program is a legacy initiative introduced shortly after our founding in 1986. AAFA sponsors can symbolically adopt one or more animals, like Indigo, residing at our Watkins Glen, NY, or Acton, CA sanctuaries. As a recurring giving program, ongoing AAFA sponsorships automatically renew. However, you may cancel or make changes to your account at any time.

The monthly or annual commitment of our compassionate community of AAFA supporters provides the necessary support to care for an individual rescued farm animal and continue Farm Sanctuary’s lifesaving rescue, education, and advocacy work.

Here’s what sanctuary has done for Indigo:

Thankfully, the slaughterhouse owner agreed to surrender Liberty and her calf. Just one day after winning an Academy Award, Joaquin Phoenix helped gently carry Indigo to freedom.

As Joaquin’s brother, River, once wrote, “Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow.” It certainly has for Indigo and Liberty.

One year after their rescue, Joaquin visited the cows to see how sanctuary had lifted the weight of their past. Indigo walked over to greet her rescuer.

“I imagined they would be skittish and scarred by the experiences they had and resentful toward humans, but there was a warmth…in their eyes,” Joaquin said.

Today, Indigo is adored by her caregivers and known as “the darling of our herd.” Happy and playful, Indigo runs zoomies around her pasture without a care in the world.

Indigo’s never far from her mom’s side—and unlike most cows, they’ll never see their bond broken. Together, they’ve healed from their past, and

your monthly gift will support their future .

In thanks, we’ll send you an adoption certificate featuring the beautiful Indigo and her story.

We are so thankful for your compassion. For animals like Indigo, you are the difference between cruelty and care.

Adopt. Protect. Love. Become part of Indigo’s journey from slaughterhouse to sanctuary today.

With gratitude,

Indigo’s Friends at Farm Sanctuary
