AAFA sponsors can symbolically adopt one or more animals, like Indigo, residing at our Watkins Glen, NY, or Acton, CA sanctuaries. As a recurring giving program, ongoing AAFA sponsorships automatically renew. However, you may cancel or make changes to your account at any time.
The monthly or annual commitment of our compassionate community of AAFA supporters provides the necessary support to care for an individual rescued farm animal and continue Farm Sanctuary’s lifesaving rescue, education, and advocacy work.

Thankfully, the slaughterhouse owner agreed to surrender Liberty and her calf. Just one day after winning an Academy Award, Joaquin Phoenix helped gently carry Indigo to freedom.
As Joaquin’s brother, River, once wrote, “Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow.” It certainly has for Indigo and Liberty.
One year after their rescue, Joaquin visited the cows to see how sanctuary had lifted the weight of their past. Indigo walked over to greet her rescuer.
“I imagined they would be skittish and scarred by the experiences they had and resentful toward humans, but there was a warmth…in their eyes,” Joaquin said.
Today, Indigo is adored by her caregivers and known as “the darling of our herd.” Happy and playful, Indigo runs zoomies around her pasture without a care in the world.
Indigo’s never far from her mom’s side—and unlike most cows, they’ll never see their bond broken. Together, they’ve healed from their past, and your monthly gift will support their future.
