Federal housing support stands at a crossroads for thousands of Pittsburgh-area residents as the Trump administration plans to slash the Department of Housing and Urban Development workforce by half.
The county’s housing authority sees uncertainty about federal support ([link removed]) as another reason to wean tenants off of public housing and make more households self-sufficient. “Let's see how many people we can get off of affordable housing,” said Rich Stephenson, executive director of the Allegheny County Housing Authority. “How many people can use Section 8 as a stepping stone to get off the program?”
