Even though every major figure on the left -- and much of the media -- is r=
unning interference for Joe Biden, he still faces significant blows to his =
popularity ... among his own base.

a new poll found that 26% of Democratic voters and 40% of Democratic voters=
under 45 think he should be replaced as the presidential nominee.

This should concern the Biden campaign for two reasons.

1. Biden is the front-runner, but he's not technically the nominee yet. Tha=
t won't happen until the Democratic National Convention in August, and he's=
still short of the 1,991 pledged delegates needed to win outright on the f=
irst ballot.

Although it's highly unlikely he'll be replaced as the party's presumed nom=
inee, 2020 has shown us that nearly anything is possible -- and now would b=
e the time.

2. This question was asked after voters watched Biden address the sexual as=
sault allegations -- and media coverage of that issue will continue. The Bi=
den campaign first thought he could avoid a personal statement, and they se=
emed to count on the media for help downplaying the issue.

But now that Biden addressed it in a national interview, it will come up fo=
r him again -- and for party leaders and campaign surrogates, most of whom =
went on the record in 2018 for up-ending due process and presumption of inn=
ocence in their attempt to destroy now-Justice Kavanaugh's nomination to th=
e Supreme Court.

As we've said, both the left and the Biden campaign now struggle with the i=
mpossible standard they created: at minimum, they're now engaged in a cynic=
al double standard; at maximum, a moral outrage. Either way, it doesn't see=
m like voters like it.

Instead, it's a thinly veiled critique of all that's wrong with the Biden =

Trump 2020 campaign in contrast.

[Poll: 40% of Democrats under 45 want to replace Biden as the nominee.]

"Younger voters were more likely to want Biden replaced as the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party, with 40 percent of voters under 45 agreeing that he should be replaced by another candidate and just 15 percent of older voters saying the same." Even though every major figure on the left -- and much of the media -- is running interference for Joe Biden, he still faces significant blows to his popularity ... among his own base.

As The Hill reported <[link removed]> , a new poll found that 26% of Democratic voters and 40% of Democratic voters under 45 think he should be replaced as the presidential nominee.

This should concern the Biden campaign for two reasons.

1. Biden is the front-runner, but he's not technically the nominee yet. That won't happen until the Democratic National Convention in August, and he's still short of the 1,991 pledged delegates needed to win outright on the first ballot.

Although it's highly unlikely he'll be replaced as the party's presumed nominee, 2020 has shown us that nearly anything is possible -- and now would be the time.

2. This question was asked after voters watched Biden address the sexual assault allegations -- and media coverage of that issue will continue. The Biden campaign first thought he could avoid a personal statement, and they seemed to count on the media for help downplaying the issue.

But now that Biden addressed it in a national interview, it will come up for him again -- and for party leaders and campaign surrogates, most of whom went on the record in 2018 for up-ending due process and presumption of innocence in their attempt to destroy now-Justice Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court.

As we've said, both the left and the Biden campaign now struggle with the impossible standard they created: at minimum, they're now engaged in a cynical double standard; at maximum, a moral outrage. Either way, it doesn't seem like voters like it.

OK, that wasn't the point of their piece. But it's what the bottom line is.

David Axelrod and David Plouffe, both leaders of President Obama's 2008 campaign, wrote the New York Times piece as advice to the Biden 2020 campaign. Instead, it's a thinly veiled critique of all that's wrong with the Biden campaign strategy (in a word: everything) ... and all that's right with the Trump 2020 campaign in contrast.

Among the highlights:

* As they admit, President Trump is a "master at using social media."

* President Trump's online audience is larger than Biden's by a scale of 15 to 1.

* And President Trump's campaign has the edge in both battleground state political organization and getting out the message online to their supporters.

In contrast, Biden -- whom they dub "the Man in the Basement" -- is, well, making "online speeches from his basement."

As we shared with you yesterday, Elizabeth Warren is Democratic voters' top VP pick for their party, according to a recent poll. Now she's demonstrated that she passes an important qualification test: she'll defend Joe Biden, even if it makes her a hypocrite as she does so.

After demanding Michael Bloomberg end any non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) his company had created ... and after joining the fight against now-Justice Kavanaugh in summer 2018 ... she has defended Biden against the sexual assault allegations he faces and not asked for any investigation into documents he refuses to release at the University of Delaware archives.

We struggle to imagine she'd respond this way if she were still in the Democratic primary -- or if a Republican politician faced these same allegations.
