Poll: 40% of Democrats under 45 want to replace Biden as the nominee. "Younger voters were more likely to want Biden replaced as the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party, with 40 percent of voters under 45 agreeing that he should be replaced by another candidate and just 15 percent of older voters saying the same." [Read the full story from The Hill.] Even though every major figure on the left -- and much of the media -- is running interference for Joe Biden, he still faces significant blows to his popularity ... among his own base.
As The Hill reported, a new poll found that 26% of Democratic voters and 40% of Democratic voters under 45 think he should be replaced as the presidential nominee.
This should concern the Biden campaign for two reasons.
As we've said, both the left and the Biden campaign now struggle with the impossible standard they created: at minimum, they're now engaged in a cynical double standard; at maximum, a moral outrage. Either way, it doesn't seem like voters like it.
Obama campaign strategists lay out the strengths of the Trump 2020 campaign. "As much as Mr. Trump personally revels in television exposure, his campaign has been digital first from the start. Team Trump knows where and how voters get their information and tests a tremendous amount of content to find the winning material their targets will consume and share. Mr. Trump’s surrogates are a relentless presence on social media and his massive digital following dwarfs Mr. Biden’s by a factor of 15 to one." [Read the full story from The New York Times.] OK, that wasn't the point of their piece. But it's what the bottom line is.
David Axelrod and David Plouffe, both leaders of President Obama's 2008 campaign, wrote the New York Times piece as advice to the Biden 2020 campaign. Instead, it's a thinly veiled critique of all that's wrong with the Biden campaign strategy (in a word: everything) ... and all that's right with the Trump 2020 campaign in contrast.
Among the highlights:
In contrast, Biden -- whom they dub "the Man in the Basement" -- is, well, making "online speeches from his basement."
An encouraging sign: President Trump is traveling America again! He's in Arizona today. "The quick visit may be the first in a series of trips by Trump to highlight his administration's efforts in combating the crisis. 'We’re going to start to move around,' the president said last week. 'I've been at the White House now for many months, and I'd like to get out.'" [Read the full story from Fox News.] Since the COVID-19 pandemic became a serious threat to America, President Trump has been at the White House to oversee our national response.
Now, thanks to his Administration's leadership, our country is starting the process of returning to business -- and an encouraging milestone is President Trump traveling the country.
Today President Trump is in Arizona to highlight the production of N95 masks at a production facility there. By now, we all recognize N95 masks as essential equipment for our healthcare heroes in the response to COVID-19.
It's an official visit, which means President Trump will travel in his capacity as President and won't conduct any campaign events. But Arizona is a critical state for his 2020 re-election, so it's a smart, strategic choice for President Trump to begin his national tour there.
Elizabeth Warren passes important VP test: she'll embrace hypocrisy to defend Joe Biden. "Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) claims to want transparency and has a history of calling on politicians and government officials (mostly Republicans) to release documents and records. Yet now that former Vice President Joe Biden is the presumptive Democratic nominee – and Warren is a potential VP candidate – the senator has gone silent when it comes to Biden releasing his files at the University of Delaware." [Read the full story from the Daily Wire.] As we shared with you yesterday, Elizabeth Warren is Democratic voters' top VP pick for their party, according to a recent poll. Now she's demonstrated that she passes an important qualification test: she'll defend Joe Biden, even if it makes her a hypocrite as she does so.
After demanding Michael Bloomberg end any non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) his company had created ... and after joining the fight against now-Justice Kavanaugh in summer 2018 ... she has defended Biden against the sexual assault allegations he faces and not asked for any investigation into documents he refuses to release at the University of Delaware archives.
We struggle to imagine she'd respond this way if she were still in the Democratic primary -- or if a Republican politician faced these same allegations.
And, on a final note: as always, we wish for the health and safety of you, your family, and your community at this uncertain time. Stay safe and see you tomorrow!
