Dear Neighbors,
I hope you?re enjoying the unofficial start to summer! June is already here and it?s shaping up to be a great summer.?
The 2023-2024 legislative biennium has concluded with several successfully enacted reforms, investments, and new laws to benefit our Plymouth and Medicine Lake residents and families for generations to come.?
Last year the Legislature passed our major two-year budget bills, and this year the House built on that progress by passing small supplemental budgets alongside more substantial policy changes in major committee areas. Working alongside the Governor and our Senate counterparts, we reached final agreements on all major budget bills.?
You can find nonpartisan summaries about the final agreements here: Transportation, Labor and Housing [ [link removed] ], Energy and Agriculture [ [link removed] ], Public Safety and Judiciary [ [link removed] ], Commerce and Cannabis [ [link removed] ], Jobs and Economic Development [ [link removed] ], Environment and Natural Resources [ [link removed] ], K-12 Education [ [link removed] ], Higher Education [ [link removed] ], Human Services [ [link removed] ], Health [ [link removed] ], and Elections [ [link removed] ].?
These are all great bills, but as a member of the [ [link removed] ]Commerce, Higher Education, Ways and Means committees, and serving as the chair of the State and Local Government committee, I?m proud to have led efforts like expanding health insurance coverage for wigs for cancer patients, reproductive health care, and prosthetics.

This year, we passed a gun violence prevention bill [ [link removed] ] that includes tougher penalties for straw purchasers and a ban on binary triggers, a bill [ [link removed] ] that will increase wages for rideshare drivers while keeping companies operating in Minnesota, a ban on hidden ?convenience? fees costing Minnesotans around $3k a year, and new funding, reforms, and delivery models for Emergency Medical (ambulance) Services. This just scratches the surface on what was a historic, nation-leading biennium of progress, but there?s more work to do to continue to build a stronger, brighter state for everyone.

I continue to listen to people in our community about what makes them proud to live in Minnesota, their hopes and dreams for the future, and the barriers they face toward meeting their goals and visions for themselves and their families. We prioritized what Minnesotans value most: strong education opportunities from cradle to career; jobs with wages and benefits that can support a family; more affordable, accessible health care; clean air, water, and soil, along with action to tackle the climate crisis; and welcoming, safe, and inclusive communities.

*MLC Leadership*
I?m humbled to share that I've earned the 2024 Legislator of the Year Award from the Municipal Legislative Commission. [ [link removed] ] As the chair of the House State and Local Government Committee, I've worked hard with our suburban communities and local units of government to plan for development and redevelopment of land while improving housing density and increasing housing affordability.
