This week, President Biden announced he is committed to working with dam-breaching proponents in Washington.   Fighting to Protect the Four Lower Snake River Dams This week, President Biden announced he is committed to working with dam-breaching proponents in Washington. President Biden’s remarks are the first time he has publicly sided himself with advocates for breaching the Four Lower Snake River Dams—a move that would go against scientific assessments from the federal government itself. I introduced the Northwest Energy Security Act this week to protect the Four Lower Snake River Dams. These dams are vital to the entire Pacific Northwest—creating clean energy, jobs, and transportation opportunities that our communities rely on. I will continue to work in Congress for effective, science-based solutions to protect our salmon population while simultaneously maintaining our powerful hydroelectric dams. It is vital we prioritize improving our hydropower assets, because salmon and dams DO coexist. Read More on Fox News   Standing Up to the DOE's Anti-Gas Stove Agenda This week, I demanded answers from the Department of Energy (DOE) regarding their proposed anti-gas appliance rule. This rule would effectively ban the usage of gas appliances for millions of Americans and has no basis in the DOE's jurisdiction. The DOE claims that their proposed requirement would incur savings for gas appliance users. However, this consumer saving is only an estimated $0.12 cents/month, or $1.50/year. This miniscule saving is not enough to trade for the decreased functionality associated with meeting the DOE's overly stringent proposed standards. It would also eliminate 95% of today's gas appliances, which is unacceptable. The freedom of choice when making purchasing decisions is crucial, and I am committed to standing up to this egregious overreach by the DOE. Read More on My Website     A Win for Parents Across the Nation Across the United States, parents have asked time and time again for more transparency in schools and have been met with fierce backlash. It is unacceptable that parents are being left out of the decision-making process for their own children's education. The current administration went so far as to label these concerned parents "domestic terrorists" for simply speaking up at school board meetings—which is their right. This ends now. Today, the House of Representatives passed the Parents Bill of Rights Act to take a stand for educational freedom and give parents the transparency they need in order to be the most affective advocates for their children. Parents have the right to know what their children are being taught. Parents have the right to be heard. Parents have the right to see the school budget and spending. Parents have the right to protect their child's privacy. Parents have the right to keep their children safe. No one is more qualified to make decisions for children than their parents, and it's finally time we empower them with the information they need in order to succeed. With the passage of the Parents Bill of Rights Act in the House, we are one step closer to fulfilling our commitment to parents all across the nation. Read More on My Website Recognizing Central Washington Producers this National Agriculture Week This National Agriculture Week, we recognize all the Central Washington producers who work tirelessly to provide us with food for our tables. Farming has been an important part of my family for generations -- in fact, my first job was cutting asparagus! So, I understand how hard our agricultural producers work to keep the nation fed. Washington's agricultural economy is booming. In fact, we are the top producer of numerous produce items including apples, hops, blueberries, pears, spearmint oil, and sweet cherries. Our farmers' commitment to quality and sustainability sets us apart from the rest of the nation, and I am proud to represent them in Congress. Meeting with Representatives from the Port of Pasco I met with representatives from the Port of Pasco this week to discuss critical improvements to the air traffic control tower located in the Tri-Cities airport. Updating our crucial infrastructure is vitally important, and I remain committed to supporting the prosperity of Central Washington. Discussing Clean Energy with Representatives from the Port of Benton   I also met with representatives from the Port of Benton this week to discuss crucial energy initiatives. We must have an all-the-above energy grid to power our communities. Maintaining American energy independence is one of my top priorities, and I look forward to continuing this important work this Congress.   Veterans Service Fair The Veterans Service Fair is only one month away! On Saturday, April 22nd in Yakima, join us as we explore resources available for veterans throughout the region. Organizations attending are offering assistance with VA and healthcare benefits, counseling, and employment opportunities. Pre-registration is not required, but it is encouraged. Pre-Register on My Website Showcasing Agricultural Careers at Yakima Valley College This week, Yakima Valley College's Grandview campus offered an open house for high school juniors and seniors interested in agricultural careers. Workshops included modern ag technology, pest management, viticulture, and more! It is crucial we support the next generation of agricultural producers, and workshops like these are great opportunities to learn more about this booming industry.
