Hey John — it’s David Hogg reaching out. In 2018, my classmates and I experienced one of the worst school shootings in modern history. Instead of giving up hope, we turned our anger into action by organizing rallies, marches, and school walk-outs in every corner of the country. Little did we know, millions of people identified with our stories and shared our pain. The March For Our Lives movement we built together wasn’t inevitable. You and I had to help build it. We demanded our leaders pass laws to keep us safe and ensure that no child would ever have to deal with the trauma we experienced. But instead, they told us that the gun lobby was too powerful to take on and that our calls for gun safety legislation were dead on arrival in Congress. We refused to take no for an answer and went straight to organizing for change. We got to work and turned that tragic moment into a historic, youth-led movement, and passed hundreds of laws that have saved countless lives since. It’s because YOU showed up in full force that we’re still standing strong today. YOU marched alongside us in one of the largest demonstrations in our country’s history. YOU made sure our voices were heard across the country and stayed engaged day in and day out. YOU kept supporting our mission despite the naysayers and gun lobby attacks. YOU are the reason our movement is a force to be reckoned with.
