Hi John!

The IPCC's recent synthesis report delivers a final warning: We can still prevent the worst effects of climate change, but only if we act now and in a more determined way.

“The pace and scale of what has been done so far, and current plans, are insufficient to tackle climate change.”

– IPCC

This is already the sixth IPCC report, and by now, we should all be aware of the devastating effects of climate change and the urgency to act. That's why we, the European Greens, are leading the charge in the fight for a just transition. But we cannot do it alone. The upcoming European Elections will be a make-or-break moment in the battle against climate change, and we need everyone on board.

That's where you come in, John. You can help us rally more people to join our fight. So don't wait – share this newsletter, ask your friends and colleagues to sign up, and join us in our fight!

Join the webinar about creating change for LGBTIQ communities

Join our webinar and learn about multiple perspectives on what it takes to make real long-lasting changes for the better for LGBTIQ communities, with the special emphasis on trans communities. This event is organised on the eve of the International Trans Visibility Day,  March 30, 19:00 CEST, and is moderated by our committee member and trans and non-binary activist Mina Jack Tolu. Why we must exit ECT!

The Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) is a highly litigated investment protection treaty that protects investments in fossil fuels, making it incompatible with the fight against climate change. Join us as we examine one case where the ECT pushed Slovenia to weaken fracking rules, and sit down with Green MEP Anna Cavazzini, who has been leading the position of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament on the matter.

EIL brought together Greens, activists and experts

The European Ideas Lab 2023 in Warsaw was co-hosted by the European Greens, the Greens/EFA Group in the EP and the Polish Greens. The programme included topics such as the rule of law in Poland, abortion rights, border policies and migration, the transformation of the transport sector, as well as many inspiring stories from civil society. France

"Worrying attack on democratic standards"

Our Co-Chair and French Senator Mélanie Vogel strongly opposes Emmanuel Macron’s pension reforms, and his use of article 49.3 of the Constitution which allowed him to bypass the parliament to implement them: “This is a worrying attack on democratic standards that endangers our social contract.” Trade unions, a vast majority of workers, and of the French population are against the pension reforms. Solidarity with the workers of France who are standing up to Macron's unjust actions! Everyone deserves a secure and dignified retirement.

Campaign Handbook

Learn how to run digital marketing campaigns

A new webinar about digital political marketing has just been published in our Campaign Handbook! Lennart Krotzek and Lena Kaarow share their insights on how European Greens and the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament approach digital marketing and offer tips and advice for Green parties to do it. Log in or sign up for the Campaign Handbook (available for EGP partners and Green Parties’ members) to access the new content.

If you missed the webinar on the Norwegian Campaign App, you can now watch in the Handbook.

Turkey

Solidarity with HDP

We condemn the actions of the Turkish government and stand in solidarity with the People's Democratic Party HDP and all civil society in Turkey fighting for a green, democratic, and pluralistic country. Turkey's President Erdoğan and his government are trying to dissolve HDP, the parliament’s third largest party. They are being singled out for standing up for Kurdish rights and resisting the government’s expanding clampdown on political freedoms and dissent. HDP has decided not to take the risk of being shut down and to enter the elections with a joined list under the umbrella of our member party Yeşil Sol Parti.

Netherlands

Great result for GroenLinks in regional elections

Our Dutch member party GroenLinks matched their best-ever result in the Senate and keeps their 8 seats. They are the largest party in many cities across the country, such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and many other regional capitals and student cities. Facing heavy pushback, GroenLinks ran a strong campaign for more climate action as well as affordable housing and fair taxation. Congratulations on this great result!

Poland

Fourth member joins Greens in parliament

Great news from Poland: Klaudia Jachira, a member of the Polish parliament, has recently joined the Green group in the parliament, adding to the growing number of Zieloni MPs in the Sejm. With Klaudia's arrival, the Greens are now represented by a total of 4 MPs, out of which 3 are women. We are thrilled to see our Polish member party expanding and wish all 4 MPs the best of luck in their work fighting for a greener and more democratic Poland and Europe!

Croatia

Thomas Waitz visits Možemo party assembly

Last weekend, our co-chair and Green MEP Thomas Waitz was at the Croatian Green-Left party’s assembly alongside Zorislav Antun Petrović, president of Zelena alternativa - ORaH. Translating to ‘We can!’, Možemo has united progressive forces to give a real option for change and citizen participation in Croatia. At their assembly the party elected MP Sandra Benčić and Zagreb mayor Tomislav Tomašević as co-coordinators. We wish them all the best for next year's EP, parliamentary and presidential elections in Croatia.

European rivers are in a dire state!

Recent environmental catastrophes on the Oder and Sajó rivers have led to mass die-offs of fish and other wildlife. And this is not a local problem. Only 44% of Europe's surface waters are in good condition. Mining, industrial agriculture and other economic activities are killing our rivers – a high price to pay for short-term financial profits.

Join us in calling on the European Commission to ban dumping of waste and industrial discharge into European rivers, now!
