Friend,
Twenty years ago this week, the US invaded Iraq. While that mission -- after much sacrifice and heroism -- may be over, Congress still has work to do to officially end this war.
Many of us know families of those who were killed in Iraq -- whether in the 2000, or the Gulf War of 1991. They courageously did their jobs and protected our country. Now, Congress must come together and do our jobs -- it's time say loud and clear that the wars in Iraq are over once and for all.
I’m proud to lead the bipartisan effort to end the decades-long, outdated 1991 and 2002 war authorizations, which presidents of both parties have misused to justify military action. We passed a key hurdle last week in the Senate -- but we haven’t finished the job yet, and I need to know if you’re with me in this fight to end endless wars.
Add your name today to endorse my bipartisan legislation to end the unnecessary and outdated Authorizations for Use of Military Force.
It’s long past time to formally end the Gulf and Iraq wars -- to ensure we don’t have a war authorization against an enemy that no longer exists, to honor the 1.5 million servicemembers who fought in Iraq, and to revive checks and balances making sure Congress is consulted when our country enters conflicts.
The solemn responsibility to determine when we send our sons and daughters into war rests with Congress -- not solely the Executive Branch.
I’m working with Democratic and Republican colleagues to get this done -- alongside Indiana Senator Todd Young -- because Americans on both sides of the aisle are ready to end this chapter of war.
Our legislation advanced out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with a bipartisan vote last week -- but I need to know if you’re with me as we work to finish the job and pass this bill to officially end the Gulf and Iraq wars.
Add your name today if you agree it’s time to end unnecessary war and revive important checks and balances for war, peace, and diplomacy across the globe.
Thanks so much, let's get this done once and for all.
