From a Victorian-style adobe homestead in El Paso to an inventive French Second Empire mansion on the Gulf Coast, the THC’s historic house museums represent Texas’ diverse landscape and architectural heritage. Experience how Texans lived over the past 175 years in modest homes, comfortable residences, and opulent estates. Call ahead to book guided or self-guided tours at several THC state historic sites:


* Starr Family Home [ [link removed] ] in Marshall traces the transitions of Texas life over 150 years and four generations and features a working 19th century kitchen.
* Magoffin Home [ [link removed] ] in El Paso is an 1875 adobe home that tells a century of stories from a prominent Mexican American family vital to the city’s development.
* Sam Bell Maxey House [ [link removed] ] in Paris chronicles the history and challenging legacy of Reconstruction through the lives of Texas families who lived in the house.
* Fulton Mansion [ [link removed] ] in Rockport is the innovative home of George and Harriet Fulton overlooking Aransas Bay that the couple built as a ‘love letter’ to one another.
* Charles and Mary Ann Goodnight Ranch [ [link removed] ] in Goodnight is a Victorian-style two-story ranch house that features views of the bison herd and Palo Duro Canyon.
* Bush Family Home [ [link removed] ] in Midland was home to a remarkable American political family that produced two presidents and governors for some of the largest U.S. states.

Experience the Battle of San Jacinto

Saturday, April 22

The San Jacinto Battleground will once again hear the booming of cannons, the cracking of musket fire, and the shouts of “Remember the Alamo!” at the San Jacinto Celebration. Presented by the San Jacinto Museum and Battlefield Association [ [link removed] ] and San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site [ [link removed] ], it's a day of fun, food, history, and reenactments celebrating the 187th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto. Reenactors dressed in period clothing will make the epic events of April 1836 come alive, and reenactments throughout the day will recreate the dramatic events that led to one of the most decisive and impactful military victories in the history of North America.

Free Children's Exhibit Open at National Museum of the Pacific War

The National Museum of the Pacific War [ [link removed] ] in Fredericksburg recently opened its children's exhibit, "Children on the Homefront: Growing Up with War. "This permanent exhibit depicts World War II on the homefront in the United States through the eyes of children. Visitors have opportunities to ponder not only the sacrifices made by children on the homefront during the war but also their resilience.
