Hi friend,

It’s no secret that extremism and hate speech has been on the rise in the United States. And while we’ve seen many great efforts to combat the increases in dangerous rhetoric that we’ve seen since the previous administration – there’s one area where it's seemingly gone unaddressed: online video games.

A report from the Anti Defamation League (ADL) published last year found that 16% of young players said they’d been exposed to white supremacist comments while playing online games, higher than the 14% exposed through in-person conversation. That’s why I’ve been working tirelessly to combat this dangerous trend – and thankfully, folks are starting to give this issue the attention it deserves:

In light of the ADL’s findings, I called on several of the largest gaming companies in the industry, including Sony, Microsoft, and more, to describe their harassment and extremism policies, as well as what efforts they have in place to assess or mitigate extremism in their games. While some provided sufficient responses, the vast majority failed to address some of our most urgent questions .

This is unacceptable, team. We need to ensure that our kids are able to enjoy safe and inclusive communities – including when they’re playing games online – without fear or intimidation. That’s why I’m not letting up. I’m going to keep holding these companies’ feet to the fire so that they follow through on properly addressing this important issue.

If you’re with me in the fight to combat extremism in online gaming, please consider making a donation to my campaign today so I can keep up the pressure on these companies and protect our communities from hate and division! [[link removed]]
