Weekly Script March 19th, 2023 WEEKLY SC℞IPT Friends, Thank you for taking time to read my weekly update. Below you'll learn more about what I'm doing in Washington to support Iowans in the first district. Visit My Website It's Time to Invest in American Energy When President Biden took office, American energy production was thriving, and gas prices were a little over $2. In just two years, we’ve seen record high gas prices and an inflationary spiral that’s reduced real wages and put a dent in the wallets of all Americans. In fact, it’s gotten so bad that the Energy Assistance Directors Association expects this winter, U.S. households will have paid the highest energy costs in 10 years. These frightening trends are a direct result of President Biden’s war on American energy and must be stopped. Everyone benefits from American energy dominance and independence. Without significant work to make America an energy powerhouse over the last 15 years, our allies in Europe would still be depending on Russian oil and gas, which has already proven disastrous for countries like Germany. Energy security stemming from America’s abundance of energy should not be taken for granted. President Biden, however, has significantly weakened our position in global markets and threatened our national security through his anti-American energy policies. We shouldn’t have to turn on the TV and see President Biden fist bumping with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia while he cuts an oil deal that ignores American producers. Why not use the massive energy reserves we have under our own soil? Energy security is national security, and it’s time for this administration to prioritize domestic energy production. H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, is House Republicans’ first and highest priority this congress as we look to repair the damage done by the Biden Administration. This bill will unleash the full power of American energy, boosting energy production while creating jobs and lowering costs for Americans. This starts by repealing restrictions put in place over the past two years and requiring concrete plans for future production. The Biden administration’s policies have indefinitely delayed critical infrastructure projects and restricted mining for critical minerals necessary even for renewable energy, leaving our existing infrastructure in shambles and our supply chains reliant on China. The Lower Energy Costs Act will reform the broken permitting process that creates unnecessary roadblocks for energy producers, which will boost production and instill confidence in producers and consumers around the country. We all want to leave a cleaner, healthier planer for our children and grandchildren. Investing in domestic energy production and innovation is the first step to reestablishing American energy dominance—all while reducing our carbon footprint. 20 County Tour Talking to people at home is the best way to understand what's really important to Iowans. Speaking to residents of the First District allows me to stay informed of what is going on in their communities and what I can do to help. We had a great time at the town hall in Warren County! Thanks to everyone who stopped by! It was a pleasure to receive a tour of the Iowa City Municipal Airport! I got an inside look into their daily operations and had a productive discussion about major issues facing the aviation industry. I also had a great meeting with the National Alliance on Mental Illness where we talked about the importance of telehealth and how the new 9-8-8 Suicide Hotline has been implemented in the community. Silicon Valley Bank Legislative Roundup This week I introduced the bipartisan Biochar Research Network Act along with Kim Schrier (WA-08) and Chellie Pingree (ME-01). Biochar is a black material produced from biomass that when buried underground sequesters carbon. This bill would create a National Biochar Research Network to test biochar’s ability to absorb carbon on a variety of soil types and to increase crop production. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. Senate. We can all agree that we want to leave a cleaner, healthier planet for our children and grandchildren. Our agricultural sector in Iowa is vital to our economy and biochar sits at the intersection of smart agriculture, environment, and energy practices. Biochar has the incredible potential to help sequester carbon in our agriculture communities and we must ensure that we are using every resource at our fingertips to promote this innovative tool. The benefits of biochar are not yet fully recognized, and this bill would promote research and provide us the information we need to fully utilize biochar in a variety of types of soil and methods. I also joined the House Energy and Commerce Committee in a letter to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm demanding that the Secretary testify before the committee to explain her recent comments acclaiming China. Her comments are deeply concerning and, at the very least, reflect the Secretary is unaware of China’s atrocious environmental and human rights records. In the News On Monday, I joined Fox and Friends to talk about Dr. Fauci and the latest news regarding covid-19. It's not crazy to think the American people feel that Dr. Fauci misled them and concealed vital information about covid-19 and its origins. He must be held accountable for his role in the global pandemic. To see my full remarks on Fox & Friends, click HERE.
