Davis “In 1974, Congress passed the Community Development Block Grant Program offering grants to help provide housing for low- and moderate-income persons. Ellen Bozman, an Arlington County Board member and early visionary for fair housing and integrated social service programs, knew the CDBG could be the perfect opportunity for advancing the availability of affordable housing. After assembling fellow advocates Terri Lynch, Jim Hunter, and Ethel Yabross to lead the housing commission, the group hosted 70 people at a forum for people interested in housing solutions. This meeting led to forming a new non-profit in 1975, Arlington Housing Corporation (later AHC Inc.)! We give thanks for passionate women like Ellen who dedicate their lives to civic service and building inclusive communities.” AHC in Action Visit to Capitol Hill AHC visited the office of Senator Benjamin Cardin of Maryland last week to ask for funding to build vital community amenities as part of our Randolph Road housing development in Montgomery County. The federal funding would enable us to offer affordable child care, another critical need for working families. The one-time funding would also be used to create other community spaces to enhance our Resident Services programs and build welcoming spaces using a trauma-informed lens. We provided relevant updates, including designs for future development. Our staff took feedback on our plans to improve the community. This was a follow-up to our previous event in October, where we heard the current residents' hopes for the future.
