John,

Three years ago this week, Breonna Taylor was murdered in Louisville, Kentucky.

Her murder shook the world and prompted a Justice Department investigation of the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Last week, the Justice Department announced its findings in their Civil Rights investigation — that the LMPD engages in a pattern or practice of unconstitutional behavior which includes excessive force, discrimination against Black residents and people with behavioral health disabilities, and unlawful searches, detentions, and arrests.

Since 2020, I have worked with my Senate colleagues to reach an agreement on long-overdue reforms to improve policing practices, including dangerous search warrant executions like the one that killed Breonna Taylor.

It is time we deliver meaningful legislation to improve public safety and policing in our country. Add your name to my petition calling on the Senate to pass policing reform legislation if you agree.

It is our duty as senators to fulfill our nation’s ideals of liberty and justice for all. Thank you for joining me in urging my colleagues to action today.

With love and gratitude,
