John,

A few weeks ago, I asked you to sign a petition demanding that the U.S. Senate uphold their oaths of office by conducting a fair and thorough impeachment trial of President Trump’s actions. If you missed it, there’s still time to sign on now!

The good news is that thanks in part to all of you who stood with me and signed on to the petition, we got Mitch McConnell to extend debate times during the trial - this is a significant win for us, and for democracy!

But frustratingly, Senate Republicans shot down every effort by Democrats to change the rules to allow for crucial witnesses and documents. This is a coordinated effort by Republicans and the President to rush this trial along as quickly as possible without giving due consideration to the charges the House has painstakingly put forth.

Next week, the Senate will vote again on whether or not to subpoena witnesses.

John, that’s why I need your help right now. By adding your name to my petition calling for a fair impeachment trial, we can amplify our voices and demand that Senate Republicans allow witnesses to be called in the trial. Sign on now if you haven’t already!

We knew that this would be a difficult battle. Mitch McConnell has brazenly pledged “total coordination” with the White House and promised that there’s a “zero chance” that the Senate convicts Trump. And many Senate Republicans are following his lead.

That means the integrity of this process comes down to you, John. Will you sign my petition calling on the Senate to run a fair impeachment trial based on the facts? If you’ve already signed, please consider forwarding this email to a progressive friend so that they can sign too!

Our democracy could not function without everyday Americans like you taking collective action. So, thank you for staying informed, engaged, and being a part of this process.

More news to come,
-- Hank
