Friend,
As of last week, there have been 100 mass shootings so far in 2023.
This terrible milestone arrived earlier in the year than ever before as gun violence continues to afflict Americans in every community.
For children, especially those who endure and survive the terror of school shootings, the impacts are particularly devastating. An entire generation of students has been traumatized by mass shootings.
As adults, we’ve failed to take decisive action, and instead, we’ve placed the burden on children to protect themselves, to undergo active shooter drills, to run, hide, or fight.
One of the ways we allow this to happen is by looking the other way as gun manufacturers market these deadly weapons to our young people. That’s why I’m proud to co-sponsor the Protecting Kids from Gun Marketing Act , a bill that will direct the Federal Trade Commission to ban gunmakers from marketing to children. The FTC already has restrictions in place for tobacco and alcohol, and it’s about time we step up and tackle this crisis head-on.
If you agree, please join me by signing your name to our petition. Let’s send a message that gun manufacturers need to stop marketing their weapons to children. [[link removed]]

This bill is one common-sense step we can take to make our communities safer. Another is to pass the Assault Weapons Ban of 2023 , which I reintroduced in January.
We made important strides toward protecting our youth last year when we passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first federal legislation in decades to begin addressing the epidemic of gun violence.
But the crisis of gun violence is pervasive, and it’s going to take a lot more work to deliver real change.
I hope you’ll join me in this fight to help protect our children. Add your name today. [[link removed]]
Thanks for stepping up,
Tim Kaine
