Congressman Al Green Secures $1,500,000 in Federal Funding for The Alliance

(Houston, TX) — On Monday, March 13, 2023, Congressman Al Green was joined by Mayor Sylvester Turner and presented a symbolic check in the amount of $1,500,000 to The Alliance for their Project R.A.I.S.E.: Rebuilding Alliance to Inspire Sustainability in our Environment. This is the largest grant of this kind The Alliance has received. The Alliance is located in the most diverse neighborhood in the most diverse city in our nation. Project R.A.I.S.E. improvements will allow The Alliance to better serve the needs of the constituents in the Ninth Congressional District of Texas and beyond in an accessible, safe, and friendly environment with a small carbon footprint.

The Alliance has 250 employees in multiple locations performing much needed services including:

  • Workforce Training and Job Readiness
  • Adult Education: ESL and GED
  • Financial Coaching and Asset Building Services
  • Small Business Technical Assistance and Training
  • Youth After-School Programs
  • as well as Refugee Resettlement and Integration Support Services

This infusion of capital will bring their building up to code to meet the current requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and serve an average of 10,000 more clients annually. From its genesis in 1985, coupled with the leadership of Dan Stoecker, The Alliance has served more than 200,000 individuals through its mission to create opportunities for refugees, immigrants, and underserved residents to achieve their goals for self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life.

"The Alliance is grateful for Congressman Al Green’s diligent efforts to champion the Project R.A.I.S.E. (Rebuilding Alliance to Inspire Sustainability in our Environment) proposal through the appropriation process, and for Congress honoring The Alliance with this Community Project Award," said Dan Stoecker, President and CEO, The Alliance. "This investment in the Alliance Mission, through improvement to its headquarters facility, will create an ever more welcoming place for all residents in Harris County and Fort Bend County striving to achieve self-sufficiency, well-being, and belonging," he said.
