When the SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, we feared that many American women would lose their right to an abortion. Now that the dust has settled, we’re able to see the repercussions playing out – and it’s a horrifying picture. Let’s break it down.
A recent news story out of Tennessee details how a woman with a failed pregnancy was legally unable to get an abortion in the state. The fact that the fetus would be unable to survive was irrelevant to their recently-enacted abortion ban. In a post-Roe world, women are increasingly being put in these impossible situations, all because of Republican politicians’ disregard for their safety.

I’ve been very open about my own experiences with failed pregnancies. I suffered through multiple miscarriages and a stillbirth, and they were some of the most difficult experiences of my life. My story is my own, but millions of other American women have faced similar struggles – and now Republicans are trying to outlaw some of the medications that helped ease my pain in those traumatic moments.

If abortion is murder, is miscarriage manslaughter? No one should be prosecuted for a failed pregnancy. Period.
To make matters worse, the pressure from Republicans is starting to carry over to major corporations around the country. Walgreens just announced that they won’t distribute abortion pills in states where Republicans have threatened legal action – even where abortion is still legal and available.

It’s safe to say that we’re facing the most dangerous attacks on reproductive rights that we've seen in decades. The time is now to turn up the heat and build up our grassroots movement to fight back. We must win back Democratic control at all levels of government so we can pass laws that protect the right to an abortion, once and for all.
