Shamrocks and Smart Growth

We’re in luck this St. Patrick’s Day! Jeff Speck, a star of the walkable communities movement, will be in town celebrating the release of his 10th Anniversary Edition of Walkable City – and our partners at CSG will be hosting him! Jeff is traveling to DC for a special reading from his 10th Anniversary edition of Walkable City followed by Q&A. Copies of the 10th Anniversary edition will be available for purchase and signing during the event. 

Ward 1.5 monthly meet-up

Sunday, March 19, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Civic engagement can be both rewarding and frustrating, but it should never be lonely. If you’re looking to connect with other folks—especially in Wards 1 and 2—who think neighbors are nicer than neighborhood character and that cities should be for people, not for cars, come out on March 19 at 3 pm for this month’s meet-up at Grand Duchess in Adams Morgan.

Women+ in Planning Happy Hour 

Wednesday, March 22,  6:00 - 8:00 pm 

From serving as neighborhood commissioners and planning our bus systems to advocating for more housing and better land use, there are so many ways that women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people help make the Washington region more safe, affordable, and accessible. This Women's History Month, GGWash is celebrating those contributions with a happy hour on Wednesday, March 22, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Binge Bar, DC's newest women-owned, alcohol-free gathering space on H St, NE.

We're hiring an Operations & Administration Manager

Greater Greater Washington is looking for a part-time Operations & Administration Manager to manage a diverse range of functions to support the smooth operations of this small nonprofit organization. This part-time (approximately 20 hours/week) position will include a range of responsibilities related to administration, office management, finance, advertising, and human resources.

Changes in DC Travel Patterns from 2019 to 2022

In July 2022, GGWash commissioned Nelson\Nygaard to analyze StreetLight Insight data to better understand travel patterns as the District emerged from Covid lockdowns. Our original research compares trips taken by car, bike, on foot, and by Metrorail and Metrobus in March 2019 versus March 2022, at the District and ward levels.  Check out the recording on our Youtube channel. 

Welcome Kai Hall to our policy team!

Kai Hall has joined GGWash as our new policy officer! Kai is focusing on transportation equity – and brings knowledge, enthusiasm, and firsthand experience with some of the best public transportation and cycling infrastructure in the world to the role.
