Dear Ward 8 Residents,

Homeownership plays a vital role in helping to build strong and stable communities. It is the most effective way Americans build wealth which can be passed down from generation to generation. It also stabilizes communities and provides access to education and employment opportunities.

I am inviting Ward 8 residents to the Ward 8 Home Buyers Seminar. This workshop seeks to increase the number of first-time home buyers in the District of Columbia through education and counseling and show residents how to take advantage of available programs.

In this workshop, attendees will learn:

  • The Home Buying Process
  • How to Get Qualified
  • Financing Options
  • How To Prepare for Homeownership
  • How To Turn Your Housing Voucher Into Homeownership
  • Local Market Stats
  • Understanding Escrow
  • The Closing Process

Please register in advance to attend and share the information with a friend. We look forward to hosting you.

See you there,

Trayon White, Sr.
Councilmember, Ward 8

Bard DC Wins DCSAA Class A Basketball Title

Bard HS Early College DC defeated SEED DC, 67-64, to win the DCSAA Class A boys basketball championship on Sunday, March 5.

Four players for Bard scored in double figures in the championship game, including Nate Pondexter with 18 points and eight rebounds, Steven Lamar with 12 points, and Damari Thompson with 11 points and the shot that gave his team the lead very late in the game, while Kwari Harvey had eight points and nine assists.

This win comes just weeks after Bard won the DCIAA basketball championship against McKinley Tech.

This is the first DCSAA and DCIAA championship for Bard and it comes in just their first year at their new location in Ward 8. Bard ends the season with a 24-7 record.

Congratulations to the players, head coach Malcolm Battle and the coaching staff, and to Principal Vanessa Anderson and her faculty and staff at Bard.

WASHINGTON (7News) — While the District of Columbia deals with an alarming spike in violent crimes and youth violence, the city council is now having a bit of a change of heart about officers in D.C. schools.

Initially, the plan was to remove police officers from public and charter schools, however, Council members Trayon White, Vincent Gray, Brooke Pinto, and Chairman Phil Mendelson have sponsored the “Safe Schools and Students Amendment Act of 2023.” It would keep School Resource Officers (SROs) in school.
