Stop the bullying of LGBTQ students.

After an onslaught of hateful anti-LGBTQ bills in the Iowa Legislature in recent days, one stands out – and is moving forward quickly: Legislation to ban gender-affirming care for Iowa teens. In fact, by the time you get this email, it may have already passed.

Gender-affirming care is endorsed by major medical associations. It allows parents, their family doctors, and mental health professionals to consider a variety of options for their individual child. Too often, trans teens despair and become deeply depressed and suicidal. For many, gender-affirming care is life-saving. Find out more. <[link removed]>

For many teens, medical help simply cannot wait. Gender-affirming care as an adolescent, rather than waiting until you've completed puberty, can change your whole life for the better.

So please reach out to your legislator and share your outrage. <[link removed]>

Certainly, we encourage you to let your state representative and state senator know what you think about book banning, trying to outlaw same-sex marriage, "don't say gay" legislation that would put a gag order on teachers, and forced 'outing' of transgender kids at school.

But we also urge you to tell them that parents, with the help of doctors, and mental health professionals, should be the only ones to make these critical medical decisions for the health and safety of their kids.

It is simply wrong for politicians to take these life-saving, age-appropriate medical decisions away from parents. They need to put politics aside, and instead of throwing transgender kids under the bus, they should be helping the parents who are doing everything they can to keep their kids alive.
