John, as International Women's Day approaches, I'm thinking about the incredible women who made me the person I am today — my mom and my grandmother.

Young Sen. Gillibrand with her mother and grandmother

My mother was one of just three women in her law school's graduating class. And my grandmother was a true political powerhouse — a well-respected and hardworking activist in New York politics. Together, they inspired me to study law and to eventually run for office. And they taught me that a closed door was nothing more than an invitation to knock it down.

That's why I've spent my time in Washington fighting for women's rights and family rights — while doing everything I can to ensure we elect more women up and down the ballot.

But I know that the business of knocking down doors and shattering glass ceilings isn't an easy one. When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it felt like a punch to the gut. That single ruling — issued by an out-of-touch, ultra-conservative majority — set the fight for equality back generations. Today, there are children all across this country who are growing up with fewer rights than I did.

Opponents of progress and equality want us to believe that all of our work has been for nothing. But I refuse to accept that this fight will end in anything other than victory — and I hope you'll join me.

The task ahead of us is daunting but clear. We must restore reproductive rights to all Americans. We must expand family rights like family leave and universal pre-K. We must build a country where every child has the chance to achieve their greatest dreams. All of that starts with defending our Senate majority from the right-wing extremists who are doing everything they can to set our country back. So please, will you join me in this fight by making a donation to defend our Senate majority and invest in a better, brighter future for our children? I'm counting on you have to my back in this fight, John.

I am so grateful to have your support in this fight. Happy International Women's Day.

In solidarity,

Kirsten
