Friend,

President Biden is officially moving forward with his plan to implement an asylum ban.

Last week, the Biden Administration announced a new proposed rule that would deny asylum to many migrants along the border.

If implemented, the policy would deny asylum to migrants encountered along the U.S. - Mexico border who transited through another country without seeking asylum there first or who entered between ports of entry, with some exceptions, including use of a highly problematic government smartphone app.

Former President Trump and his Senior Advisor Stephen Miller tried to implement similar asylum bans to get rid of our asylum system altogether but multiple courts blocked these efforts because they were illegal.

The new proposed asylum ban is not much different.

It is unlawful and inhumane. Seeking asylum is a legal and human right.

We must make it clear that we are not okay with the Biden Administration implementing any asylum ban.

President Biden’s proposed asylum ban, like Trump’s, will return those seeking asylum to harm, separate families and result in further devastating consequences for decades to come.

By submitting a public comment, we ensure our voices are heard and we amplify the needs of people seeking asylum. The Biden Administration must hear from us. You do not need to be an asylum or immigration expert to register your opinion, so please lift your voice for asylum seekers and the website provides additional guidance. Instead of asylum bans, the Biden Administration can take other actions to make our asylum system stronger. This includes expanding avenues for asylum seekers to seek safety in their home countries without having to embark on the dangerous journey to the U.S. border, working with on-the-ground nonprofit organizations and local leaders who are welcoming migrants and funding the asylum system so that it is more efficient, fair and humane.

We at America’s Voice, along with 30+ other organizations have laid out a list of immigration policy priorities for President Biden that keeps families together, restores our asylum system, strengthens the economy and erases discrimination from our immigration system. The administration is asking the public what we think about this rule and will consider our comments before issuing the final version of the policy. But we don’t have much time. The public comment period is only open for 30 days until March 27th so we must act fast. Submit your public comment TODAY>>> [link removed]

Thank you for taking action,
Juana
