Keeping the WHO Out of Our Health Care
The COVID-19 pandemic exposed many vulnerabilities in our society, from shortcomings in our supply chain to a lack of checks and balances on certain institutions. One of those institutions is the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO is an agency under the United Nations tasked with promoting health across the globe. Unfortunately, during the pandemic, we saw it overstep its mandate and attempt to influence a global standard for pandemic response.

America was founded on self-governance and it is fundamentally against our core principles to allow a global health organization, such as the WHO, control over our emergency health policy, especially given its ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

That is why I joined a resolution introduced by Senator Jim Risch (R-ID) reiterating that the President of the United States is required to follow the law and obtain approval from the Senate before entering into any new foreign agreement or treaty.

In Wyoming, we treasure our independence and our self-reliance. We believe our leaders should be elected and accountable to the people. The WHO does not fit that bill, and our president should not have the ability to cede any of our U.S. sovereignty to institutions like the WHO without the support of the U.S. Senate.

Happy Trails,
WORKING IN WASHINGTON

Legislative Actions:

  • I joined Senators John Barrasso (R-WY), Tim Scott (R-SC) and Mike Crapo (R-ID) in introducing the Prohibiting IRS Financial Surveillance Act to protect people in Wyoming from the Internal Revenue Service monitoring their private transactions.
    • The IRS has no business knowing every detail of small financial transactions between individuals in Wyoming, and banks and credit unions shouldn’t be forced to spy on their customers on behalf of the IRS. This commonsense legislation will stop this clear invasion of privacy and prevent future attempts to politicize the IRS.
  • I defended the people of Wyoming’s Second Amendment rights and demanded accountability from the ATF by joining Senator Jim Risch (R-ID) and four of my colleagues in introducing the ATF Transparency Act.
    • Law-abiding gun owners in Wyoming should not have their constitutionally guaranteed rights infringed on because of a simple paperwork mistake or bureaucratic backlog.

Committee Hearings:

  • Committee on Environment and Public Works
    • I participated in the nomination hearing for Joe Goffman to be the Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation at the Environmental Protection Agency. I shared my grave concerns about his nomination and asked about his attempts to demonize Wyoming’s energy industry. Click here to watch.

Major Votes:

  • Passage of H.J. Res. 30, Senator Braun’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution.
  • Supported
    • When it comes to their retirement accounts, people in Wyoming are looking for a good store of value. They are looking for a good return on investment. The Biden administration's insertion of its progressive priorities over the financial well-being of retirees is investment malpractice.
WORKING IN WYOMING

Media:

I participated in a press conference with Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) to discuss our Congressional Review Act (CRA) to push back on the Biden administration’s attempts to politicize Americans’ retirement funds. Click here to watch my remarks.

I also wrote an op-ed for the Washington Times about the Biden administration’s encroachments into the retirement funds of people in Wyoming.

Working for Wyoming:

Many folks across the great state of Wyoming are extremely concerned about the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers using the Clean Water Act (CWA) to dip their toes into Wyoming’s privately owned water. In response, Wyoming has joined a 25-state coalition to stand up against the Biden administration's attempted land grab targeted at farmers and ranchers. I signed onto a letter back in February stating my concerns with the president’s overreach, asking that this rulemaking be suspended. This is an issue that my team and I are at the forefront of and we are working to do everything we can to protect Wyoming’s water for generations to come.

News Around Wyoming:

Barrasso, Lummis cosponsor legislation to protect Wyoming taxpayers from IRS surveillance
Oil City News
U.S. Senators John Barrasso and Cynthia Lummis, both R-WY, joined Tim Scott, R-SC, and Mike Crapo, R-ID, in introducing the Prohibiting IRS Financial Surveillance Act to protect people in Wyoming from the IRS monitoring their private transaction information.

“The people of Wyoming want nothing to do with Joe Biden’s plan to give more power to the IRS. This agency can’t even keep tax records secure. The last thing they should be given is even more access to taxpayers’ private and personal data,” Barrasso said. “The Democrats are using this tactic to squeeze as much money as they can out of hardworking Americans. Senator Lummis and I are committed to stopping this power grab dead in its tracks.”

WYOMING SHOUT OUT
While there are many things that I love about Wyoming, the kindness of the people has always stood out. Wyoming Department of Transportation snow plow driver Jaron Fry exemplified just that last week. Following a grueling 12-hour shift clearing the roads, Jaron turned his attention to truckers stuck on the side of the highway because of the snowstorm. He bought sandwiches, burritos and water and drove around delivering fresh food and hot meals to truckers that had been stuck in their cabs for days. Jaron’s selfless generosity made me feel proud and lucky to represent the Cowboy State. Hopefully, he inspires each of us to be kind to a neighbor or better yet, a stranger.
