John,

Last week, I traveled to the U.S.-Mexico border to get a firsthand look at how our current immigration policies impact people and the communities.

I’ll be honest, this is probably one of the hardest things to talk about, and the reason why is simple: A lack of compassion.

Unfortunately, this lack of compassion and will to bridge the partisan divide has become our nation’s biggest obstacle when it comes to passing meaningful legislation that paves a path to citizenship and provides resolutions to our broken immigration system.

Instead of focusing on compromises and common ground, some get caught up in the game of political finger-pointing and name-calling.

I’m working to change that , because I know we can all do better. I know that we can come together, put our differences aside, and collaborate to create real solutions — for not only our immigration system, but for so much more.

Combating climate change, modernizing our infrastructure, supporting working families, protecting our communities from gun violence, and more are all issues I know we can all agree on.

That’s why I am reaching out to you today, John. Will you let me know what you’d like to see me focus on as I work to build bridges with my colleagues and pass meaningful legislation? [[link removed]]

When we work together, we win together. That’s no corny saying, either!

Together in the Senate, we’ve confirmed 105 judicial appointments under President Biden. That’s at a faster pace than under the Bush, Obama, and Trump administrations.

We made history last year by coming together to confirm Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman seated on the Supreme Court in our nation’s history, and have confirmed more Black women to federal circuit courts than under all previous presidents combined.

And we definitely made a difference by passing bipartisan legislation like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act , the Safer Communities Act , the Inflation Reduction Act , and the Respect for Marriage Act.

I know we can continue to embrace compassionate leadership and set aside our differences for the betterment of our friends, families, and neighbors.

Let me know what issues you think I should tackle in the Senate by filling out my March Priorities Survey today. [[link removed]]
