What. A. Week. I guess full blown assaults on civil rights are to be expected now that "certain people" have control. But daaaang, Jack, there is absolutely no shame in the GOP's game. 

We could commiserate, but I know you'd rather just get the info and get into the solutions. So load up on this week's political snacks. We can all use the energy!

We have our sources, and they're warning us that a six week ban on abortions is likely to land in the House next week. Unbelievably, we have a number of Democrats whose positions on women's right to choose are... um, "in question."  

We need to make sure they plant their feet firmly for women by voting "HARD NO!" on all abortion bans. 

Our sources have told us that there is one legislator we really need to hold accountable. If you do anything today, pick up your phone and call Garland Pierce. Tell him you won't tolerate your friends, your daughters, your wives, or even your mother being sent back to the days of coat hangers, and you expect him to do the right thing. 919-733-5803. 

SB3, more romantically known as "The Compassionate Care Act," passed in the senate on Feb. 28th. If this bill goes all the way, North Carolinians will benefit from the seemingly endless health and palliative benefits of cannabis and literal avalanches of cash will roll down the Appalachians. We love to see it because 1) the drug war is racist trash and 2) those mountains of money can help correct multitudes of injustices.

The snowflakes has revived an anti-CRT bill as part of their epic strategy of wasting time on the taxpayers' dime. As any educator will tell them, CRT isn't even taught in schools. Nonetheless, GOP lawmakers would rather focus on imaginary curriculums than actually take on the work of helping North Carolinians  struggling in the margins. What's their end game? When interviewed, the bill's sponsors lamented that learning about racism might hurt some students' feelings (Pfft. What do they want? A participation trophy?). Unfortunately if HB 187 passes, Republicans will strap a gag order on teachers forcing them to omit historical context and severely compromising the credibility of NC public education.

This one hasn't moved in the last few days, but could land in the laps of the education committee soon. Let's keep an eye on it.

Last week the GOP introduced The Disabled Veterans Act SB148 in an astoundingly decent gesture for former servicemen and women. The bill, also backed by Democrats, allows for substantial percentages of veteran's homes to remain tax exempt. It goes without saying that providing housing security for disabled vets is the least we can do. Relieving their property tax burden is a definite step in the right direction. 

Celebrate. Once in awhile good things just happen. Then let's make sure we see and help the thousands of  disabled BIPOC veterans who experience homelessness. Contact your legislators today to let them know that you support this bill.
