Dear John,
While today is the last day of Black History Month, we must never stop elevating and celebrating the contributions of millions of Black people.
Black history is American history, and we have the opportunity to make sure this is never forgotten. But it’s going to take all of us, John.
Unfortunately, while Black history is American history, we currently have legislators actively trying to censor what is taught in schools around diversity in our classrooms and the experiences of diverse communities who helped shape our state’s history.
TFN is pledging to celebrate Black History Month all year long by being intentional about uplifting the contributions of all Texans.
We pledge to advocate for:
*
Teaching
the
truth
about
the
contributions
of
diverse
communities
in
our
public
schools
*
Combatting
our
maternal
mortality
crisis—we
know
Black
women
and
Black
people
who
give
birth
are
twice
as
likely
as
white
people,
and
four
times
as
likely
as
Hispanic
people,
to
die
from
pregnancy
and
childbirth
*
Addressing
environmental
racism
by
advocating
for
clean
air
and
water
in
every
community
Continue celebrating Black History Month with us! You can advocate for the issues that impact your community by either attending our upcoming “Gone to TX Lege” Advocacy Day [[link removed]] and making your voice heard at the Capitol or by joining our #TeachTheTruth campaign [[link removed]] for opportunities to ensure our kids are free to learn at the State Board of Education.
