THE ABRAHAM HIESTAND HOMESTEAD: RICH WITH HISTORY
This Greek Revival-style home in Copley, Ohio, has been restored, keeping its
best architectural features—for example, wide maple plank floors and original
fireplace—intact. But what makes the home even more special are the original
artifacts found on the property, as well as copies of documents that uncover a
more complete version of its history.

PHOTOS FROM ALASKA’S HISTORIC ROADHOUSES
Many of Alaska's 19th- and early 20th-century roadhouses have burned down or
crumbled under the region's harsh weather conditions, but, as travel writer Kate
Siber writes, "a disparate group of Alaskans ... are fighting to preserve the
few that remain, running them as lodges, restaurants, stores, and museums."
