In Washington

Although Congress has been out of session, I was able to lead on an initiative to represent North Carolina in Washington. Every state can display two statues of its choice in the U.S. Capitol. This week, I joined Rep. Patrick McHenry and my North Carolina colleagues in working to expedite the display of Reverend Billy Graham’s statue. One of America’s most influential Christian leaders, Reverend Graham was a force for good in North Carolina and the entire country through his spiritual guidance, civil rights activism, and objection to communism. I am delighted to play a part in ensuring he is forever remembered in the halls of the U.S. Capitol. You can read more on our effort here.

In the District

Before Congress goes back into session tomorrow, I've been busy around the Third District visiting many of my fellow North Carolinians.

Last Friday, I attended a naturalization ceremony and celebrated 24 of North Carolina's newest residents who became American citizens the RIGHT way. These new citizens entered the country legally, held a green card for at least two and a half years, and started the naturalization process that takes almost two years on average. They come from all walks of life - from countries like Mexico, Eritrea, and Peru. But they now have the same responsibility every American is tasked with: making their country and community a better place. You can watch my message to them by clicking here or on the image below.

I am happy to announce that my new office in Manteo is now OPEN! I enjoyed hosting an open house last week to update folks on how my team can assist Eastern North Carolina. Click here to see all my office locations.

During my time back in District, I was also able to visit several schools to meet with America's future leaders and the faculty guiding them. At Lenoir County Early College High School, I was spoke with students about my role in Congress and the same issues you are having at your dinner tables - from high gas prices to the Chinese spy balloon. It is so important to ensure the next generation has a firm understanding of civics as they enter adulthood! I also met with Pamlico County High School, where I had the opportunity to meet its JROTC students and discuss school security with the School Resource Officers. You can read about this visit here. Lastly, I headed to Jones Senior High School in Trenton to meet with the amazing staff preparing the next generation of North Carolinians.

While I was in Trenton, I met with the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department. These folks display selfless service for the safety of our community here in Eastern North Carolina. Like everyone in Trenton, I am so grateful for everything they do.

Everyone knows the importance of healthcare, especially post-COVID. As a practicing physician and Co-Chair of the House GOP Doctors Caucus, my interest in accessibility and affordability for healthcare is paramount. That is why I visited Wayne UNC Health Care to hear about its number of admissions, current staff, and the complexities of the healthcare industry in rural Eastern North Carolina.

Our 2023 Congressional Art Competition is now open for submissions! All 9-12 students in North Carolina's Third District are encouraged to participate. We look forward to a wonderful show this year; the theme is “JOY”! For more information, click here.

In other District news, I want to congratulate First Flight High School’s Jacob Kresicki, who won the North Carolina 3A High School Wrestling Championship. Thank you, Jacob, for representing our community on the big stage and displaying the true strength of Dare County! I wish you all the best in your collegiate career next year.
